Lotto winners in West Midlands

11th October 2013

The amount of National Lottery funding invested in the West Midlands has reached the £2 billion mark.

Since The National Lottery started in 1994, £2 billion has gone to 31,653 charities and community groups in the region.

Major projects helped include the mac birmingham arts complex, which received over £6 million for its redevelopment. However, most grants have been for £10,000 or less.

Already this year £111 million of funding has helped more than 1,000 National Lottery arts, sport, heritage and community projects in the West Midlands.

Grants awarded in recent months include:

• £324,000 for the restoration of the Collegiate Church of St Mary’s in Warwick.

• £7,920 to Longwill Primary School for Deaf Children in Birmingham so they can deliver outdoor sensory activities for young people.

• £308,613 to Home Start Stoke so the charity can help more families.

Jackie O’Sullivan from The National Lottery says Lottery players should consider how they are improving people’s lives around them:

“So many people’s lives in the West Midlands have been changed by this £2 billion investment. National Lottery players in Birmingham should be proud that their money is making such a difference on their own doorstep. Their funding has supported disability charities, spruced up parks and improved sporting facilities among many things. There's something for everyone.”
