NATIONAL LOTTERY SURPRISES CANCER CHARITY ON TV

The team behind ‘Something to Look Forward To’ will be honoured with a Special Achievements Award at this year’s National Lottery Awards broadcast on BBC One, Wednesday 26 September, 10:45pm.

Despite a diagnosis of incurable cancer, Fiona Coldron has made it her life’s mission to give people with incurable illnesses the life luxuries they deserve. With the help of her daughter Francesca, who quit her job to help her mum’s charity grow, they have become the ultimate family duo.

Viewers will see the presenter, Ore Oduba, hand over a National Lottery Awards trophy to Fiona Coldron, director of the Cambridge based family run charity, Something to Look Forward To, at the star studded bash; with Louis Theroux, Michael Sheen and Catherine Jenkins amongst the famous faces in the audience.

Alongside EastEnders Star Lisa Faulkner presenting Something To Look Forward To with their trophy, The National Lottery Awards 2018 will also show a short film highlighting the inspirational work Something To Look Forward To does using £7,500 of National Lottery funding.

The charity supports thousands of families affected by cancer and the resulting financial hardship. They provide ‘gifts’ and ‘experiences’ that have been donated by individuals and businesses to families who are struggling financially and emotionally. National Lottery funding has enabled them to considerably expand and enhance their work through the website.

Director, Fiona Coldron, said:

“National Lottery-funding has helped make a big difference to our work so we’re delighted to have been recognised in this way. To be able to provide positive experiences to those undergoing the effects of cancer and its treatment is hugely rewarding, and we’re thrilled that the Awards has created awareness of Something To Look Forward To.”

TV presenter and Strictly Come Dancing Champion, Ore Oduba, who will present the show, added:

“The National Lottery Awards celebrate the UK’s favourite Lottery-funded projects as voted for by the public.  It’s such an honour to be a part of a show which celebrates the inspirational people and projects who do extraordinary things with National Lottery funding.

“Everyone who plays the National Lottery should be very proud to have supported these individuals and organisations – what they have achieved is truly amazing.”

Something To Look Forward To was awarded with Special Achievement Award which is given to is someone who has done something inspirational with National Lottery funding, and has gone above and beyond to help others.

National Lottery players raise more than £30 million every week for projects across the UK.  The National Lottery Awards recognise and celebrate the difference that Lottery-funded organisations, both large and small, make to local communities the length and breadth of the UK.
