Sir Chris Hoy Takes a Ride Down Memory Lane for National Lottery Funding

30th January 2014

A trip to an extreme sports facility in Corby, Northampton, had Great Britain’s most decorated Olympian Sir Chris Hoy reminiscing about how he cycled his way to success thanks to funding from the National Lottery. Click here to view the video http://bit.ly/1a1b5Jf

Sir Chris appeared in the video filmed at Adrenaline Alley, which received £127,000 of National Lottery funding. The short film has been released to mark Day 30 of the National Lottery’s Just Imagine campaign, which raises awareness of the massive impact that £31 billion in project funding has had across the UK since the first National Lottery draw 20 years ago this year.

The Olympic hero began his career BMXing and reveals he was inspired by a film from the 1980s. He said: “I got into cycling when I was seven-years of age and I was inspired by watching the film ET. It was the first tiem I’d seen a BMX bike and I knew I wanted one. I took up BMXing racing and raced all over the country and eventually out in America as well.”

Sir Chris also told of how important National Lottery funding has been to his success, and to the success of other athletes. Speaking about the National Lottery he said: “Their support is crucial. It’s helped me in my career and it’s helped so many athletes achieve their dreams.”
