About the project

Cardboard Citizens is the UK’s only professional theatre company working with homeless and ex-homeless people as creators, participants and audiences.

The project presents plays performed by homeless and displaced people to share experiences and work together. By performing to general audiences they help share their learning and understanding of the issues faced by homeless people.

National Lottery funding has contributed to running costs, the employment of two full-time staff members, the purchase of equipment, workshops and training, website development and performances.

Cardboard citizens helps people, who often feel excluded, to develop skills and confidence through workshops and performances. They are giving them an opportunity to express themselves through the arts.
