Easingwold Town Amateur Football Club is one of the hundreds of local organisations whose playing fields have been revitalised using money from The National Lottery, awarded by Sport England.
Local playing fields are places where the whole community can come together to enjoy sport and exercise. Unfortunately they can also be difficult to maintain as they are heavily used and subject to assault by the UK’s unpredictable weather! That’s why the National Lottery is helping community playing fields to keep fighting fit through Sport England’s Protecting Playing Fields fund.
The fund is aiming to help hundreds of groups to improve their playing fields now and keep them well maintained over the next 25 years – so both this generation and the next can continue to enjoy football, rugby, tennis, cricket, hockey and many more sports on good quality public playing fields for generations to come.
Since the scheme began sites across England have benefitted from improvements including resurfacing, installation of drainage, new marking and regular grounds keeping. Some organisations have even been able to buy disused land to create brand new playing fields!
Perhaps most importantly though, many playing fields have been made more accessible to people of all abilities so that everyone in the community can enjoy them. For more information about Sport England and their Protecting Playing Fields programme visit www.sportengland.org.uk/protectingplayingfields
