For many people, having health treatments can be stressful, and having someone to talk to or help with simple tasks can make all the difference.
Hywel Dda Health Board’s Volunteering for Health project has opportunities for volunteers in Carmarthen, Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion.
The project has over 215 volunteers in 70 different roles across 59 different healthcare sites. Many volunteers have built their skills and confidence and gone on to get work or go into higher education, while also benefiting patients.
There are many volunteering opportunities, including befriending patients with few visitors, helping patients to wash and style their hair - even gardening.
David Fretwell, Volunteer for Health Project Coordinator, said: “Volunteer for Health can make a real difference - just chatting to someone who is waiting for a test result can help people feel better.”
Volunteering for Health was a semi-finalist in the 2012 National Lottery Awards.
