Footballers See Red as National Lottery Campaign Imagines Life Without Playing Fields

25th January 2014

Saturday, January 25, 2014: The National Lottery has released a light-hearted online video to highlight the impact of its funding to save 700 playing fields across the UK.

The video, part of the National Lottery’s ‘Just Imagine’ campaign, imagines a world where football matches have been banned due to lack of playing field space. A group of enthusiastic Sunday League amateurs are seen heading to a tiny patch of grass in the middle of London for a football match, ending in disaster as the space becomes too crowded for them to play.

The ‘Just Imagine’ campaign aims to raise awareness of the massive impact that £31 billion in project funding has had across the UK since the first National Lottery draw 20 years ago. The video can be viewed here: http://bit.ly/1aOZZFp

National Lottery funding has helped save 700 playing fields, with a total of £17 million invested in protecting playing fields across the UK. In addition, the National Lottery has also funded a huge number of grassroots football projects to the tune of £265 million, as well as contributing £120 million towards the building of the new Wembley Stadium.

Released on Twitter (@lottogoodcauses #JustImagine) and Facebook today, the video is the 25th in a series of 31 items to feature through January as part of ‘Just Imagine’ – one for each day of the month and each £1 billion of National Lottery funding.

For anyone wanting to find out more about funded projects in their area, the National Lottery has launched a ‘Good Cause Finder’. To see projects in your area, or to find out more about Just Imagine January, visit www.lotterygoodcauses.org.uk
