Stirling Carers Centre

Stirling Carers Centre helps unpaid carers, aged from seven years onwards, with emotional support, financial and benefits advice, and short break opportunities. They have run for more than 25 years, and helped hundreds of people develop coping mechanisms and skills to manage their caring roles and achieve a positive future.

Stirling Carers Centre has been supporting carers in the Stirling Council area for over 25 years. It was started by a group of volunteers who recognised that carers needed and deserved specialist support. Today, the organisation has 18 staff and 20 volunteers, who have been supported in their work by a number of National Lottery grants.

The centre provides a range of tailored services for unpaid carers from the age of seven upwards, across three specific groups - adults, young people and young adults.

For adults, the services include one-to-one emotional support, benefits advice, a male carers group, rural group, short break activities, complementary therapies and monthly carer training sessions.

For young carers, it offers one-to-one emotional support, in and out of school, with a range of age appropriate groups in rural and urban areas, trips and residentials providing respite, regular training sessions and a dedicated education officer working in all Stirling schools.

National Lottery funding enabled a dedicated Young Adult Carers service for those aged 18-25, providing advice and information, emotional support, monthly short break opportunities to meet other young adult carers, relevant benefits advice, and advice and assistance towards making applications to local colleges and universities.

“Through supporting unpaid carers, Stirling Carers Centre aims to make a positive difference to their lives, by enabling them to feel a part of society, giving them a voice, helping them be less isolated and improving overall health and wellbeing. “We help equip them with coping mechanisms and skills to manage their caring roles better, assisting them to reach more positive destinations in the future.
