Young Shoulders

Cancer Fund for Children's Young Shoulders Programme supports young people struggling with their parent's cancer diagnosis

Young people who have a parent diagnosed with cancer often face multiple challenges. Normal family life can be turned upside down as they have to deal with anxieties over their parent’s cancer diagnosis. They are often separated from their family due to a parent's treatment, become young carers themselves, experience changes in their relationships with others and spend limited time with friends and peer groups.

Beyond the normal challenges through teenage years into adulthood these children face additional hardships and pressures. Despite these difficulties there is limited support available to children who have a parent with cancer within their own communities.
