Offer details

At English Heritage, we often talk about stepping back in time, but nowhere do you feel as close to the past as Brodsworth Hall, which retains many of the original furniture and decorations from the Thellusson family's Victorian heyday. The story of Brodsworth charts the decline of the country home in the 20th century as financial hardships and changing social norms made most country houses impossible to maintain. Thanks to the efforts of two extraordinary women, Brodsworth still stands, but we have chosen to conserve, not restore. You can still see touches of a declining fortune - frayed silk, reduced fireplaces, empty rooms - that make history seem closer than ever.

Venture out into the gardens, considered some of the finest Victorian examples in the country. You can stroll through the beautiful Italian Garden or explore the Fern Dell - look out for the fern collection boasting 100 different species.

All this wandering through gardens and history might make you a bit peckish, so luckily our café serves delicious Yorkshire hot meals, hot and cold sandwiches and snacks, along with a range of cakes and bakes.
