National Lottery funding makes a splash

15th January 2014

Wednesday, January 14, 2014: A hand drawn image of a swimming pool full to bursting with people has been released by the National Lottery to highlight its funding to UK swimming facilities of over £131 million.

The image is released on Day 15 of ‘Just Imagine’, a nationwide campaign to raise awareness of the massive impact that £31 billion in project funding has had across the UK since the first National Lottery draw 20 years ago this year.

As the country’s most popular sport, more than 2.9 million people go swimming once a week. The picture imagines how those millions of people could look if they didn’t have access to the 242 new or renovated pools to benefit from Lottery funding.

On top of that, a further £93.7 million has been spent on affordable swimming sessions, coaching, lifeguards and equipment at local clubs through 725 separate grants.

To enable people to learn more about National Lottery funded projects in their area, the National Lottery has launched a ‘Good Cause Finder’. To see projects in your area, or to find out more about Just Imagine January, visit www.lotterygoodcauses.org.uk
