English Heritage

English Heritage conserves the places where the story of England was forged and where it can be re-told. We bring history to life for millions of people each year through inspiring interpretation, events and online resources.

English Heritage is an independent charity which cares for over 400 historic monuments, buildings and places - from world-famous prehistoric sites to grand medieval castles, from Roman forts on the edges of an empire to a Cold War bunker. Over 10 million people are inspired to visit and enjoy them every year.

We also protect an internationally significant collection of over 500,000 artefacts spanning six millennia.

Marble Hill House

Each year we enable over 300,000 children and adult learners to visit our sites for free. Our public engagement programmes include community projects and heritage apprenticeships, which equip young people with employability skills.

We draw local people into all aspects of our work, with over 3,650 volunteers supporting a range of activities – visitor engagement, education, archaeology, conservation, gardens and collections care.

At English Heritage, our projects have benefited from over £50 million in funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund. Significant projects at places like Stonehenge, Kenwood, Wrest Park, Walmer Castle and Marble Hill House wouldn’t have been possible without the support of the National Lottery and the people who play it.

Visit our Website for further information about these projects, and much more.
