TV Appearance Shows Support for Hollybush Keeps Growing

25th November 2013

Leeds project, TCV Hollybush, will be interviewed by Chris Evans on this Saturday’s National Lottery Live at 10pm on BBC One.

TCV Hollybush are the Leeds branch of The Conservation Volunteers (TCV), an organisation which allows people to reclaim and transform green spaces across the UK. TCV Hollybush are motivated by the impact improving green spaces has on the social and physical wellbeing of communities.
John Preston, project manager of TCV Hollybush, says “Neglecting green places is a false economy. It doesn't take long for a once-loved open space to become a magnet for anti-social behaviour, and a cost to society.”

TCV Hollybush will star on the show and explain how, thanks to over £336,000 of National Lottery funding, the Hollybush Conservation Centre has been completely refurbished, and a new volunteer induction and support programme developed.

John explains: “National Lottery funding has provided a safe place for a broad range of people to make friends, develop their confidence and learn new skills through volunteering. This improves their physical and mental wellbeing, and they can consider ways to make their lives more fulfilling and even gain employment. Volunteers tell me that working as a team gives a sense of achievement and togetherness”

“National Lottery funding means our volunteers can help to manage threatened green spaces across Leeds and beyond. Recently we have completed the boardwalk Lotherton Hall; conservation work in the woodland garden at Adel St John School, and we are currently transforming the bird garden at Raynville Primary School.”

Jackie O’Sullivan, spokesperson from the National Lottery, says ‘TCV Hollybush is a fantastic example of how the £35 million raised by National Lottery players every week benefits people, projects and places across the UK.”

“Thanks to National Lottery players an incredible £30 billion has been raised since The National Lottery launched in 1994 for a range of great projects the length and breadth of the UK. No matter what your interests, the National Lottery funds something for you.”
