Young Musicians ‘Walk Out’ On National Lottery Campaign
28th January 2014
Video released today as part of new National Lottery ‘Just Imagine’ campaign
Tuesday January 28; A group of young musicians from north-west London put down their instruments and walked out of a performance to mark Day 28 of the National Lottery’s ‘Just Imagine’ campaign, which raises awareness of the massive impact that £31 billion in project funding has had across the UK since the first National Lottery draw 20 years ago this year.
The children, from the Ethnic Contemporary Classical Orchestra (ECCO) in Kensal Rise, were starring in a video to highlight the thousands of opportunities created for young musicians in the UK by National Lottery funding.

The short film imagines what life might be like for the 23-piece music group if they had never received National Lottery funding. One-by-one the cellists, violinists and percussionists stop playing their instruments and leave the orchestra until there is just one lone cellist.
Violinist Julia, who appears in the video, spoke of the positive impact that the ECCO project had had on her. She said “Playing the violin really changed what I do. It makes me feel a lot happier.”
Kayleigh, also a violinist, described the orchestra as one big family and said “I’ve been with the orchestra all my life and they make feel at home.”
Vicki Kennedy, Director of the National Lottery Promotions Unit said: “This is an incredibly talented group of young people. The Ethnic Contemporary Classical Orchestra in Kensal Rise is just one of the many music projects open to people across the country.
“The National Lottery funds hundreds of music projects that bring communities together, encourage people to learn instruments and have fun.”
