Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

Learn more about the National Lottery Promotions Unit (NLPU), how we showcase the impact of National Lottery funding, support funded organisations, celebrate players and help tell the stories behind National Lottery Good Causes across the UK.

What is the National Lottery Promotions Unit?

The National Lottery Promotions Unit (NLPU) is a dedicated team that raises awareness of the positive impact National Lottery players make across the UK. We highlight how National Lottery funding supports thousands of good causes each year. Through our storytelling, we connect players with the projects they’ve helped bring to life thanks to the £33 million they raise for good causes every week and seek to increase public awareness of what’s been made possible for more than 30 years.

What does the NLPU do?

We work with National Lottery distributors, the National Lottery operator Allwyn, partners and funded organisations to promote National Lottery‑funded people and projects. We share stories of individuals and communities benefiting from funding, celebrate our players, and deliver national campaigns that brings the impact of National Lottery support to life.

Who receives National Lottery funding?

National Lottery funding supports a wide range of organisations and projects across the UK, including sport, arts, culture, heritage, community projects, film, education and the environment. If your organisation is funded, your story may be featured in our promotional work to help showcase the impact of this support. If you wish to apply for National Lottery funding, please visit our funding page.

Does the NLPU distribute funding?

No. We do not award or distribute National Lottery funding. Funding decisions are made independently by the 12 National Lottery distributors:

You can get in touch with National Lottery Good Causes here or you may hear from our team about potential opportunities.

How do you choose which projects to feature?

We look for stories that show clear, meaningful impact and bring to life the difference National Lottery players make. This includes strong outcomes, relatable stories, good visuals, and projects that link to wider National Lottery campaigns or national moments.

How can my organisation acknowledge National Lottery support?

All funded organisations should use the official National Lottery logos and acknowledgement guidelines. Our brand assets and toolkits are available to help you recognise your National Lottery funding and thank National Lottery players.
