Bold Tendencies is a non-profit organisation that has transformed the disused rooftop spaces of Peckham’s Multi-Storey Car Park into a thriving public space, commissioning site-specific art and new architecture, as well as running an annual world-class live programme of orchestral music, dance, opera and literature.
The rooftop spaces at Peckham Multi-Storey Car Park in South London are home to not-for-profit arts organisation Bold Tendencies, which has for the past decade transformed this unlikely concrete structure into a vibrant public space.
Bold Tendencies commissions site-specific art and new architecture, and runs a world-class live events programme of orchestral music, dance, opera and literature.
In 2018 Bold Tendencies delivered its most ambitious programme to date, running for 19 weeks and welcoming 155,631 visitors with 31 live events and 10 new art commissions. These included an inaugural opera programme directed by Polly Graham, former Genesis Assistant Director at Welsh National Opera. The programme finale, The Order of Time by artist and designer Es Devlin - with text by theoretical physicist Carlo Rovelli and read by Benedict Cumberbatch - was a sell-out, bringing together 1,439 people for a spectacular close to the season.
The project’s Art Trainee Programme is an immersive working and learning experience offering participants (aged 19-27) a practical insight into the life and work of the organisation and a Learning Programme reaching across culture and the creative industries.
MY MUSEUM is an ambitious on-site curatorial, art making and workshops project where primary school age children (aged 4 - 11) take the lead, inspired by our visual arts programme and permanent commissions.
Hannah Barry, Chief Executive, says: “Bold Tendencies is unique in terms of the rich mix of what it does, and where and how it does it. Bold Tendencies is for everyone: committed to artists, audiences and workforce, it takes culture and civic values seriously. Combining ambitious projects with spectacular views across London, Bold Tendencies celebrates the free enjoyment of space and time in the city.”
