Scottish Sports Futures

Scottish Sports Futures is an inspiring organisation that helps exceptional young people experiencing challenges reach their full potential through the power of sport. Combined with the principles of youth work, SSF champions inclusivity and collaboration to create an environment in which young people, their families and communities thrive.

Scottish Sports Futures use the power of sport and physical activity to engage with young people in Scotland and empower them to be confident, healthy, and happy. They work to combat the effects of living in poverty and buffer against trauma and adversity.

Last October, Maree Todd, Minister for Social Care, Mental Wellbeing and Sport joined young women from the charity to take part in physical activity and launch Scottish Women & Girls in Sport Week 2022.

Fifteen girls from Glasgow, Fife and Stirling joined the Minister in sporting sessions and took part in discussions over what stops girls and young women from being active. The initiative encouraged deep conversations highlighting stigmas and barriers for women and generated ideas to overcome these. Partnership with the Sweaty Betty Foundation allowed for gifting of sports bras and the charity have since been focussed on female only activity and the young women have led the development of girls only sessions, removing barriers to participation.

Scottish Sports Futures believes that all young people should fulfil their potential. They have embedded a culture of hope, that places young people and communities at the heart and take a dignified approach to supporting young people to deliver groundbreaking programmes with love, care, and empathy.

Last year, they engaged with 2,387 young people across 1,120 physical activity and youth work sessions. Since launching in 2000, they have supported tens of thousands of young people to change their lives.
